Genesis Chapter 16: Hagar and Ishmael
Genesis chapter 16 tells the story of Sarai, Abram's wife, who, unable to bear children, gives her Egyptian handmaid Hagar to Abram to bear a child. Hagar conceives and begins to despise Sarai, leading to tension between the two women. Sarai mistreats Hagar, causing her to flee into the wilderness. There, an angel of the Lord finds Hagar and instructs her to return, promising that her son will be named Ishmael and that his descendants will be numerous. This chapter explores themes of faith, human intervention, and divine promise.
